So, I know I’ve been MIA the last week or so. With school getting underway, registrations, football practice starting, memory mates and school pictures I’ve been one busy little woman. (Notice I threw in *little*…..like I’ll ever be that again! But I am down 15 pounds with my oily weight loss plan! Check it out HERE.)
Also over the course of the last week our youngest son had (what we believe to be) an asthma attack. One night during football it hit and his daddy and I have been a little upended and maybe even a bit in shock trying to discover how this could have happened and how to move ahead.
I instantly began reading and researching asthma, causes, triggers, etc. We made an appointment with our doctor’s office, only to discover we were LESS than pleased with the outcome and visit with had with the nurse practitioner. I really missed my doc that day. Over the last 4-5 years we have used very little prescription meds for anything. We try to move toward more natural and safer alternatives for our family if at all possible. Now, I’m not saying we never take medicine but I want to move as far away from it as possible.
I talked with several friends who have kids with asthma, what triggers theirs, how they handle it, how they discovered it. To me, hearing from others who have experience means the world. You don’t always learn about life through books. But I was surprised to find a study that linked atopic dermatitis in babies and toddlers to a later onset of asthma. The Washington University in St. Louis published this article, which described our boy to a tee. When I asked the nurse practitioner you would have thought I had two heads. Between my questions and my statements making it known we prefer natural medicine and essential oils when possible pretty much shut her down. Or should I say, she shut me down. From that point forward my wishes and concerns were irrelevant and completely disregarded. It was as if we weren’t even in the room.
So, I read and read, and read some more. Watched some testimonials from others who live with asthma and how they use essential oils and after doing my ‘research’ decided to try RC, Raven & Breathe Again (it’s an awesome little roll on bottle!).
I try to be VERY proactive when it comes to my kiddos. No matter what it is we’re dealing with. Health concerns, school, friendships. It’s my job as a parent. I only wish more people were involved where their kids are concerned. Anywho…..
I read that some have had so much success with these three oils that they have replaced the steroids they used, their inhalers and even a few testimonials raving about replacing their rescue inhalers had me feeling very hopeful. We started a daily routine of diffusing oils right away. I get up before he does and start the diffuser with RC in the morning while he’s still sleeping for at least 30 minutes to an hour. He sleeps with the diffuser on at bedtime with Raven oil. And every morning before he heads off to school, or before he has an activity that I know he’ll be exerting himself we use the Breathe Again roll-on on his chest.
Now, we formally don’t know that he in fact has asthma. We await our next appointment with a new doctor in less than 24 hours. (I’m stoked, seriously!) Hoping to have a more definite answer and some concrete evidence if we are in fact dealing with asthma. The good news is, he has not had another attack since Thursday (5 days so far!), and he LOVES his oils. Yes, I said LOVES. One of my girlfriend’s sons is his best friend and she called because her boy came home asking if she knew what essential oils are. We laughed together picturing them sitting around the lunch table or during football practice with my boy teaching the other kids about essential oils. My own little entrepreneur in the making. lol
Last night was his first night of football practice since his attack. I oiled him up before practice with the Breathe Again roll-on and had to leave dad in charge as I was called away for work. When I got home my husband said that he wasn’t supposed to tell mom, but there must be something ‘SUPER’ in my oils because he felt like an animal at practice! I laughed so hard. Dad helps coach so he has a very close watch on our boy and he said, “Seriously though….he has NEVER practiced better. In the last 4 years our boy has played football he had his best practice tonight. Of all time. What the heck did you put on him? We’re doing it again, right?” Even better was when I got inside and our boy proceeded to tell me the same story dad wasn’t supposed to share. lol He was so proud and so excited!
I secretly think (after watching him and looking back over the years of the things we’ve experienced), that he’s never really had a full lung capacity and we just never realized it. When we put the oils on his chest and neck he says it feels really good and helps him breathe. I don’t know how, I don’t even wanna know why. I’m just glad my baby can still run and play and do what he wants without worry. He’s been really great about that. No worries, no stress. Momma’s got this. I love that he trusts the oils as much as I do.
*When I went to order the individual oils that we needed, the RC was out of stock (very popular, did I mention that?!) so I purchased the Golden Touch Kit. It contains RC and Raven along with some other very important and popular oils to have on hand that I had been wanting and was actually running low on. So it just made sense to get the kit. if you’d like to shop online check out the SHOP link above, or if you’d like to learn how to get your oils at wholesale cost with a membership you can click HERE to learn how to save.
If you haven’t tried essential oils yet, why not?! Get oily with me!
