Just Breathe | Golden Touch

So, I know I’ve been MIA the last week or so.  With school getting underway, registrations, football practice starting, memory mates and school pictures I’ve been one busy little woman.  (Notice I threw in *little*…..like I’ll ever be that again!  But I am down 15 pounds with my oily weight loss plan!  Check it out HERE.)

Also over the course of the last week our youngest son had (what we believe to be) an asthma attack.  One night during football it hit and his daddy and I have been a little upended and maybe even a bit in shock trying to discover how this could have happened and how to move ahead.

I instantly began reading and researching asthma, causes, triggers, etc.  We made an appointment with our doctor’s office, only to discover we were LESS than pleased with the outcome and visit with had with the nurse practitioner.  I really missed my doc that day.  Over the last 4-5 years we have used very little prescription meds for anything.  We try to move toward more natural and safer alternatives for our family if at all possible.  Now, I’m not saying we never take medicine but I want to move as far away from it as possible.

I talked with several friends who have kids with asthma, what triggers theirs, how they handle it, how they discovered it.  To me, hearing from others who have experience means the world.  You don’t always learn about life through books.  But I was surprised to find a study that linked atopic dermatitis in babies and toddlers to a later onset of asthma.  The Washington University in St. Louis published this article, which described our boy to a tee.  When I asked the nurse practitioner you would have thought I had two heads.  Between my questions and my statements making it known we prefer natural medicine and essential oils when possible pretty much shut her down.  Or should I say, she shut me down.  From that point forward my wishes and concerns were irrelevant and completely disregarded.  It was as if we weren’t even in the room.

So, I read and read, and read some more.  Watched some testimonials from others who live with asthma and how they use essential oils and after doing my ‘research’ decided to try RC, Raven & Breathe Again (it’s an awesome little roll on bottle!).

diffuser3

I don’t know how we ever lived without this little thing.

I try to be VERY proactive when it comes to my kiddos.  No matter what it is we’re dealing with.  Health concerns, school, friendships.  It’s my job as a parent.  I only wish more people were involved where their kids are concerned.  Anywho…..

I read that some have had so much success with these three oils that they have replaced the steroids they used, their inhalers and even a few testimonials raving about replacing their rescue inhalers had me feeling very hopeful.  We started a daily routine of diffusing oils right away.  I get up before he does and start the diffuser with RC in the morning while he’s still sleeping for at least 30 minutes to an hour.  He sleeps with the diffuser on at bedtime with Raven oil.  And every morning before he heads off to school, or before he has an activity that I know he’ll be exerting himself we use the Breathe Again roll-on on his chest.

Now, we formally don’t know that he in fact has asthma.  We await our next appointment with a new doctor in less than 24 hours.  (I’m stoked, seriously!)  Hoping to have a more definite answer and some concrete evidence if we are in fact dealing with asthma.  The good news is, he has not had another attack since Thursday (5 days so far!), and he LOVES his oils.  Yes, I said LOVES.  One of my girlfriend’s sons is his best friend and she called because her boy came home asking if she knew what essential oils are.  We laughed together picturing them sitting around the lunch table or during football practice with my boy teaching the other kids about essential oils.  My own little entrepreneur in the making.  lol

Last night was his first night of football practice since his attack.  I oiled him up before practice with the Breathe Again roll-on and had to leave dad in charge as I was called away for work.  When I got home my husband said that he wasn’t supposed to tell mom, but there must be something ‘SUPER’ in my oils because he felt like an animal at practice!  I laughed so hard.  Dad helps coach so he has a very close watch on our boy and he said, “Seriously though….he has NEVER practiced better.  In the last 4 years our boy has played football he had his best practice tonight.  Of all time.  What the heck did you put on him?  We’re doing it again, right?”  Even better was when I got inside and our boy proceeded to tell me the same story dad wasn’t supposed to share.  lol  He was so proud and so excited!

Golden Touch Kit

I secretly think (after watching him and looking back over the years of the things we’ve experienced), that he’s never really had a full lung capacity and we just never realized it.  When we put the oils on his chest and neck he says it feels really good and helps him breathe.  I don’t know how, I don’t even wanna know why.  I’m just glad my baby can still run and play and do what he wants without worry.  He’s been really great about that.  No worries, no stress.  Momma’s got this.  I love that he trusts the oils as much as I do.

*When I went to order the individual oils that we needed, the RC was out of stock (very popular, did I mention that?!) so I purchased the Golden Touch Kit.  It contains RC and Raven along with some other very important and popular oils to have on hand that I had been wanting and was actually running low on.  So it just made sense to get the kit.  if you’d like to shop online check out the SHOP link above, or if you’d like to learn how to get your oils at wholesale cost with a membership you can click HERE to learn how to save.

If you haven’t tried essential oils yet, why not?!  Get oily with me!

Kitchen Witch | Natural Remedies

So my mother came over to the house today and we did a little cookin’ in the kitchen.  Not the old fashioned kind.  Well, maybe this is the old fashioned kind nobody remembered to pass it down!  We’d found some ‘recipes’ online for some sleepy cream, and some pain relief cream among other things.  When mother called to ask how to make them, it’s just easier to show her.  So she brought her everyday oil kit, a jug of coconut oil and, now…..she never leaves home without her water bottle either.

So we looked up the recipe for the sleepy cream first.  Mother has been overwhelmed by the power of peace and calming in her diffuer at night for bed and has been sleeping better than she has in YEARS.  So why she felt the need to add this sleep cream to her nightly routine I have no idea.  We made such a mess and rubbed it all over our bodies to clean up that I’m just glad she wasn’t dozing off on her drive home. lol

So here’s a helpful little chart with a few good recipes.  Most of which can be made using the essential oils from the Everyday Oils that can be purchased as a part of the Premium Starter Kit.

So the sleepy cream was a breeze to make.  My only substitution is adding a bit of mango butter to the mix.  You see, where I live coconut oil doesn’t stay solid except in the winter. 😉 So I always use a double boiler and add a more stiff carrier to my goodies.  Melt down the coconut oil and mango in a double boiler just to the point it’s liquid.  Then I transfer it to a room temp glass bowl and put it in the fridge just long enough for it to start to set up again.  Like when you start to see a solid edge around the bowl.  Take it out, stir just a bit to make it like jelly, then I add my necessary essential oils and take my electric hand mixer with the whisk attachment and whip it up until it’s nice and creamy.  If you’ve ever made meringue it’s sorta’ the same principle.  Then we put her creams into metal tins and put labels on the lids.

We made the pain cream on this recipe chart too, just like above adding some mango butter and preparing the same way.  Only lemongrass doesn’t come in the premium kit and that’s what my mother has been working with.  So we substituted Thieves oil.  Which I’m sure works GREAT too!!  🙂

She was so happy when she went home I wonder how long it took her to get them out at home and lather my dad up!  Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils aren’t cheap (nothing that’s good for you ever is!), so it’s nice to be a bit stingy (for lack of a better word) with them at times.  Just administering a drop or two neat on your skin is definitely awesome and gets right down to business.  But if you have something chronic or just a daily habit you’ve gotten into then making things like these creams makes your oils go a long way!  Remember a little dab’ll do ya so when you are making a 1/4 to 1/2 cup mixture you’re going to get a lot more mileage out of your precious drops of oil than you realize.

I hope you take the time to make some of the things on this sheet and let me know how they worked for you!  Even if you just use the one carrier oil of coconut rather than a combination it’s still gonna work out great for you!

Oh!  I almost forgot!  She told me she had been studying what to use for my dad’s blood sugar too and apparently she’s been applying Thieves oil to his feet at night too.  So we took an empty oil bottle and added a carrier oil (olive oil) to the bottle and put in some thieves so she already has a bottle of mixed to use like a massage oil.  He’s still getting the benefit of the thieves and it’s going to last a lot longer for her this way.

There’s seriously soooo many ways to use essential oils that this is just the tip of the iceberg. (please note that I’m watching Deadliest Catch while updating my blog so I’m literally seeing icebergs. lol Yeah, I’m a dork like that.) Please comment below if you have made any of these or if you have recipes of your own you’d like to share!

Concentration | Essential Oils

Concentration…. no, not a game.  A little dab’ll do ya!  Have you ever wondered just how concentrated Young Living oils are?  How potent they are?  I hear other people say I’ve got oils from such in such place and they didn’t cost as much as YL.  Have you ever heard the saying ‘you get what you pay for’?   Do you desire to have quality over quantity?  Because let’s face it, when it comes to our health, we want the best.  For ourselves, for our families, for our children.  Am I right?  You don’t choose your family physician by which one is the cheapest.  You choose your doctor based on their credentials, their reputation, their bedside manner, their willingness to go the extra mile to ensure you get the best possible care they can give you.  Trust me.  I know.  Our family doctor for the past 15+ years (heck I’m not even sure how long she’s been in our lives…) does just that.  When you can call her on a Friday night because your kid has just filled a stool full of blood and she talks you through it and meets you in her office the next day (yes, it was a non-emergency) in her coveralls and muck boots you know you’ve got a keeper.  😉  I don’t care how much it costs to see her (if we need her!) I’m there.

You should consider the same principles with your essential oils.  Using therapeutic grade oils means you are using medicinal quality products.  Would you trust your health to a perfume grade oil?  That makes absolutely no sense.  You want something that will work.  Plus, you want something that is not only safe for you, but for your kids as well.  You wouldn’t give a toddler an adult Claritin D allergy pill would you?  Why it even says on the package to consult your doctor for children 12 and under.  Know that I’m using allergies as an example here, but wouldn’t it be nice to be able to treat your child’s allergies as effectively as your adult ones?  With the same products?  Naturally.  Take for instance an ‘Allergy Bomb’ recipe.  You use Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon essential oils in a veggie capsule and you’re good to go.  You can use those same exact oils for your kids….just less drops.  🙂

Another example?  Someone ask me about teething babies this morning.  I use clove oil when I have a toothache.  Thieves is great too!  (because it contains CLOVE! and other germ killing greatness) When I need it, simply put a drop on a q-tip and get to swabbing my mouth around my tooth and gums.  Anbesol’s got nothing on clove oil.  But would I use it this way on a baby?  NO!  I’d use the same oil, but simply dilute it with a carrier oil such as coconut!

So, stop and think about all the medicines (just stick to simple over the counter for now) that you’ve purchased over the years.  One for you, then a separate one for your kid.  Adult anbesol, baby anbesol.  Adult Claritin, children’s benadryl.  Aspirin, baby aspirin.  Ibuprofen, children’s Tylenol.  Almost every product you can think of for everyday ailments have an adult version and a children’s version.

The even better part about therapeutic grade Young Living essential oils…. they are so concentrated it takes just a drop or two for an adult!  You are actually SAVING money!  Why don’t more people take time to do the math?  Not only for your wallet, but for your health.  I’m sorry, you just can’t convince me that synthetically produced chemicals that have a wrap sheet of side effects will ever be a better option for my body than a natural plant the good Lord placed on this earth.  He knew exactly what He was doing with the utmost intricate details.

Consider these cost comparisons of Young Living’s everyday essential oils, compared to the cost of over-the-counter drugs. Not only are the essential oils significantly cheaper, but they build your immune system while solely aiding in healing ALL health ailments that each one of these drugs is designed to individually target/suppress—AND they’re side-effect free! Are you ready to switch?

First we’ll start with the overall complete Premium Kit:

Okay, if that didn’t blow your mind…..  Let’s break it down.  Let’s cover each individual oil in the kit and a little comparison.   Remember, this isn’t ALL these oils can do!  They are so versatile it would take forever to compare all the uses they have.  But let’s start here:

For the love of lemons!  I thought I’d share a little bit about each one of the everyday essential oils to let you know how awesome they are and what you can do with them.  (or *gasp* if you don’t have them what you’re missing out on!)  And just let me say, lemon is one I get excited about.

I am truly in love with my lemon oil and can’t get enough of it.  Of course I love all things citrus which makes me a lemon junkie.  I drink it in my water, I diffuse it, I pop it in pills, I apply it to my wrists for a quick pick me up.  It’s a great detox oil and uplifts your moods.  Not to mention the power it has to kills germs is amazing.

Just in the last few days, I’ve shared lemon oil with several friends, helped one friend with what she thought to be strep throat, of course used it in my water, diffused it in the house….and let me tell you what, it works WONDERS for heartburn!  Yes, heartburn!  You’d think something we consider to be acidic would be the last thing you’d reach for.  But lemon helps put your bodies natural acids back in balance.  I was amazed the first time I tried it for heartburn.

For years we’ve used cleaners that contained lemon ‘scent’ and it was so refreshing.  Imagine cleaning your house now with REAL lemons and lemon oil.  Mmmmm……

Picture yourself sipping on some fresh lavender lemonade!  There’s a treat!  If you utilize pinterest and google you’ll be amazed at what you can find.  Just try a random search for ‘young living lemon essential oil’ and sit back and relax while you peruse the world wide web.  If you ever have questions regarding an oil or the credibility of a site you are searching, don’t hesitate to ask me!  I love all things oily!

Once Upon a Time | Melaleuca

Once upon a time in a land far, far away….. just kidding.  It was only 10 years ago and happened in Missouri.  Don’t I wish I was far, far away.  On a beach.  With a good book. 😉

When our youngest son was just a baby he developed eczema.  I’d never seen a baby with such horrible red skin and as a parent you NEVER want your kids to feel bad.  Of all the childhood illnesses I never dreamed looking into my baby’s eyes and sweet cheeks that he would look like a watermelon had exploded on his face and it would bring me to tears.  Surprisingly after going to the doctor and hearing the good news that he didn’t have some debilitating third world disease taking over his body, we had a simple enough solution to make it all go away.  Just a prescription cream.  Only I didn’t want something that a doctor had to essentially write a permission slip for me to use as it was too ‘potent’ to sell over the counter.  I wanted something that didn’t have a wrap sheet of side effects a mile long!   We’d already filled the script (because 10 years ago our insurance was awesome and it didn’t cost us anything!  So much for change….but that’s another post for another blog), and then took the time to read the informative insert that came along with our little wonder tube.  We quickly decided against using it.  I tried to find every alternative method I could to help ease the itch and make it go away.  Lucky for us our boy wasn’t a scratcher and stayed relatively happy through it all.

100_0198

Bear in mind this was a good day!  🙂  Only his face and part of his arms were broke out and not too bad at that!

Then someone introduced us to a wellness company that had natural products for our home and health and in this one special little bottle of essential oil we found our miracle.  The company made a body lotion that had melaleuca oil that was recommended for skin conditions such as eczema and rosacea.  After just one or two days it was AMAZING what we saw.  Our little melon boy was starting to look normal again!  He no longer looked like someone with third degree burns on his face and arms!  The doctors told us not to bathe him everyday either as it could dry his skin out and make his condition worse.  As a baby (especially a winter baby) that wasn’t that big of a deal.  No hot weather, no frogs to stick in your pockets at just 3 months old.  😉  Which became a normal routine for us of bathing a couple times a week.

100_0301

And voila! I checked the data on these pictures in my computer and this was about a week after the first picture.

As he grew older his skin would get a little dry in the winter but that was it.  We always resorted to the same lotion and melaleuca oil.  We never had to deal with eczema again.  🙂  We were sold on that one simple little essential oil and used it for EVERYTHING.  Literally.  It’s like a wonder oil for so many things.  You can imagine momma’s excitement when she discovered Young Living  some 5 or 6 years later and the whole plethora of natural goodness that followed.

I can only imagine what I would have done if I’d had Young Living all those years ago.  If you suffer from eczema here’s a few tips I’d suggest, as always research and reading on your own is a must!  Then you might want to give this a try:
